Coco Gauff has enjoyed a pretty successful 2025, winning the French Open and a WTA 1000 event.
Naturally, there have been some setbacks, with Gauff’s serve still proving a hot topic of discussion as the major weakness that is stopping her from world domination.
Gauff ended her season at the WTA Finals, and qualifying for the event represents a positive, although she was unable to defend the title she won for the first time in 2024.
Aryna Sabalenka was somewhat frustrated after losing to Gauff at Roland Garros and vented her frustration with some classless comments afterwards.
She later apologised, and it was a shame she behaved in such a manner, as it took the gloss off the victory a little bit.
People will naturally believe the final was Gauff’s greatest performance of 2025, but in reality, there was a better one even before the Paris finale.
Coco Gauff’s performance came during the United Cup win
Gauff will return to the United Cup in January looking to defend the title that she won alongside Taylor Fritz last year.
The American performer won 6-4, 6-4 against Iga Swiatek, with the two-hour clash proving sublime from Gauff’s point of view.
Gauff showcased a real ability to dictate from the backline during the match and chased down balls that looked like certain winners from the racket of Swiatek.
It was at this point that people may have felt that Gauff had turned a corner, and perhaps this was actually the catalyst for a very fruitful 2025.
Gauff has always been a player who rises to the big occasion, and this has to be considered as one of the most complete performances of her entire career against Swiatek.
Gauff can win another Grand Slam in 2026
It was almost two years between Gauff’s first Grand Slam and her second, and she will be keen to ensure she kicks on and adds more to the collection.
After serving 431 double faults during 2025, it’s quite easy to establish where Gauff needs to improve, but with the right people now in her corner, that should come good next year.
With four Grand Slam opportunities next year, Gauff is capable of going deep in them all, and when it gets to the nitty-gritty, she knows how to get over the line and win titles.
This win at the United Cup was superb, but it’s a competition that some will view as a glorified exhibition event.
Now, Gauff will hope to bottle this from the start of last year and start unleashing it on opponents more often than she does right now.
