Defeat to Aryna Sabalenka saw the curtain drawn on Coco Gauff’s 2025 WTA Tour campaign.
Finishing with a 1-2 record in her group, Gauff failed to reach the last four of the WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The defending champion would no doubt have hoped for more at the WTA Finals, but can still look back on 2025 with a smile on her face.

Gauff won several titles this year and maintained her status as a top-five player, an achievement that shouldn’t be overlooked.
But just how successful was Gauff’s 2025 season?

The American number one won four titles this year, across singles and doubles.

| June | French Open | Grand Slam | Singles |
| August | Canadian Open | WTA 1000 | Doubles |

Winning the Roland Garros title, Gauff became the seventh active player in women’s tennis to win multiple majors.

- T-3. Naomi Osaka – 4
- T-5. Coco Gauff – 2
- T-5. Barbora Krejcikova – 2
- T-5. Victoria Azarenka – 2
Not only has Gauff won several titles this year, but she’s been remarkably consistent on tour, reaching the latter stages of many ‘big’ events.

However, for all her success, there has been one major issue with Gauff’s game in 2025: her serve.
How does Coco Gauff’s serve compare to the rest of the WTA Tour?
When the double faults were piling up earlier this year, Gauff hired serving expert Gavin MacMillan as her new coach.
There has been some noticeable improvement, but when it comes to making double faults, there’s just nobody quite like Gauff on the WTA Tour…
Double fault leaders on the WTA Tour – 2025
- 1. Coco Gauff – 405
- 2. Ekaterina Alexandrova – 297
- 3. Alycia Parks – 296
- 4. Linda Noskova – 289
- 5. Marta Kostyuk – 261
- 6. Dayana Yastremska – 260
- 7. Amanda Anisimova – 247
- 8. Jessica Bouzas Maneiro – 244
- 9. Ajla Tomljanovic – 241
- 10. Jelena Ostapenko – 241
Making over 100 more double faults than anyone else this year, it’s clear to see what Gauff needs to work on between now and January’s Australian Open.

The double faults are a cause for concern, but where does Gauff rank compared to her WTA rivals in other key serving metrics?
2025 Serving stats (WTA Tour)
- Aces – 178 (18th on WTA Tour)
- 1st Serve % – 61.7% (176th on WTA Tour)
- Win % on 1st Serve – 68.5% (25th on WTA Tour)
- Win % on 2nd Serve – 43.2% (178th on WTA Tour)
- % Service games won – 68.8% (60th on WTA Tour)
She doesn’t rank in the top 10 for any of the most recognized metrics, a worrying sign for someone of her quality.
Luckily for Gauff, her serve hasn’t stopped her from winning Grand Slams and competing at the highest level on the WTA Tour.
As things stand, Gauff will finish the year ranked inside the top three for the third straight year.
Top five in the Live WTA Rankings
| Rank | Name | Country | Points |
| 1 | Aryna Sabalenka | Belarus | 10,470 |
| 2 | Iga Swiatek | Poland | 8,395 |
| 3 | Coco Gauff | USA | 6,763 |
| 4 | Amanda Anisimova | USA | 6,287 |
| 5 | Jessica Pegula | USA | 5,583 |
She could yet fall to world number four, however, if Amanda Anisimova wins the WTA Finals.
Anisimova will play Sabalenka in the semifinals of the WTA Finals on Friday, November 7.
