Amanda Anisimova is among the WTA stars to have arrived in Paris for Roland Garros.
The second Grand Slam of the season gets underway later this month, with the American looking to improve upon her fourth round exit from 2025.
Anisimova is also looking for her maiden Grand Slam title, and indeed her first title of an intriguing season so far.
She is currently ranked sixth on the WTA Tour, and enters Roland Garros with 11 wins and six losses to her name this season.
But perhaps most notable is her approach towards the Grand Slam itself, which certainly represents a big risk from the 24-year-old.
Who is your favorite player on the WTA Tour right now?
Amanda Anisimova takes big risk before Roland Garros
Anisimova last played a match at the Miami Open in March, when she was beaten by Belinda Bencic in the round of 16.
Since then, she has withdrawn from Charleston, Madrid and Rome, meaning she hasn’t played a single match on clay ahead of Roland Garros.
Her absence has often been out of her hands, with Anisimova ruled out by injury in recent times, but zero matches on clay before a Grand Slam on the surface could really work against her.
Also during her absence, Anisimova split with her coach Rick Vleeshouwers, which simply adds another level of intrigue to her French Open chances.
After her fourth round exit last time out, she reached the finals of Wimbledon and the US Open, but lost to Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka respectively.
Long before that, she surprised the entire tennis world with a superb semifinal run in Paris, where she was beaten by eventual winner Ashleigh Barty after knocking out defending champion Simona Halep.
| Result | Year | Tournament | Surface | Opponent | Score |
| Loss | 2025 | Wimbledon | Grass | Iga Swiatek | 0–6, 0–6 |
| Loss | 2025 | US Open | Hard | Aryna Sabalenka | 3–6, 6–7(3–7) |
Amanda Anisimova enjoys Roland Garros practice with Hailey Baptiste
Fortunately Anisimova is back on the court, having just practiced with fellow American Hailey Baptiste in Paris.
And she was all smiles during the session, of which she shared images on her Instagram with the words: “All love with Hails.”
Baptiste commented under the post with love heart emojis, while their compatriot Sloane Stephens wrote: “I like this a lot!”
Should women play best-of-five sets at Grand Slams?
Stephens, who won the 2017 US Open and lost the 2018 Roland Garros final, is currently involved in qualifying in Paris.
And the American has enjoyed a positive start, defeating Carol Young Suh Lee 6-3, 6-2 in her opening match.
