Alexandra Eala was on the end of another heavy defeat after being beaten by Karolina Muchova in Miami.
Eala is one of the most exciting young players in tennis right now, and she has shown just why after enjoying impressive results at the start of the 2026 season.
It has been a real breakout year for Eala, who reached the Miami Open semifinals last year and has risen over 100 places in the WTA rankings.
Eala has beaten Iga Swiatek and Madison Keys in this time, but continues to suffer an issue that is becoming quite alarming.

Alexandra Eala keeps suffering heavy losses in tournaments
Eala has won at least two matches in her last three WTA tournaments, all of which have been at 1000 level.
The way that Eala has been able to back up her breakthrough season has been hugely impressive, but there seems to be something stopping her from reaching the next level.
At all three of these last tournaments, Eala has suffered a heavy defeat, winning just two games against Coco Gauff in Dubai, Linda Noskova in Indian Wells and now Muchova in Miami.
| Tournament | Alexandra Eala’s Result |
| Dubai Tennis Championships (QF) | Coco Gauff beat Eala, 6-0 6-2 |
| Indian Wells (R16) | Linda Noskova beat Eala, 6-2 6-0 |
| Miami Open (R16) | Karolina Muchova beat Eala, 6-0 6-2 |
Gauff, Noskova and Muchova are three of the best players in women’s tennis right now, but Eala’s lack of competitiveness against them is concerning.
Eala’s serve can be a notable weakness, and a lot of these top players appear to be exploiting this on their return.
This was evident in her latest match against Muchova, where Eala won just 36% of points on her first serve and was broken five times.
The Filipina also has a more obscure issue against Czech players, with Eala now having lost all 13 matches she has played against players from this nation.
Alexandra Eala now has a big opportunity to climb back up the rankings
As a result of Eala being unable to defend her points from reaching the Miami Open semifinals last year, she is now set to drop outside the top 40 in the WTA rankings.
This should not be too much of a concern for Eala, who now has a big opportunity to make her way back up the ranks.
Eala has previously struggled on clay courts, and therefore has few points to defend over the coming months.
