Iga Swiatek was very impressed by what she saw from this WTA player, who has now been handed a setback.
Swiatek has exited the Australian Open herself after suffering a quarterfinal defeat at the hands of Elena Rybakina.
This officially brought an end to a mixed campaign for the world number two in Australia, with Swiatek winning the United Cup for the first time.
Swiatek actually lost two of her singles matches at the United Cup, but there was one player who she beat that really appeared to catch her attention.

Eva Lys releases statement confirming severity of injury
In just her second match of the 2026 season, Swiatek beat Eva Lys after coming from a set down.
After making a comeback to beat the German, Swiatek claimed that something Lys was doing throughout the match was ‘pretty amazing’.
There are a lot of hopes for Lys, who achieved her career-high ranking of world number 39 to start the 2026 season.
Despite all the promise surrounding Lys, she was handed a setback after losing in the first round of the Australian Open singles draw and subsequently retiring from her doubles match.
Following her early exit from the Australian Open, Lys revealed that she had hyperextended her knee at the United Cup, but claimed that it was ‘nothing serious’.
However, tests have now confirmed that the injury was more severe than first imagined, with Lys releasing a statement to explain the full prognosis.
“Hey everyone, I wanted to share an update with you,” Lys began in a statement on social media. “After the first evaluation in Sydney didn’t show anything concerning, further tests back home confirmed a knee injury that will keep me out of competition for the next couple of weeks… and honestly, this one really hurts.
“Being sidelined is one of the hardest parts of this journey, when all you want to do is compete.
“But maybe being tested is part of the process, and sometimes a challenged life might be the best therapist. For now, I’m taking it day by day, focusing on healing and trusting what’s ahead. Thank you for all the love and support—I feel it more than you know.”

Eva Lys set to face another setback after the Australian Open
Injury is not the only setback that Lys has faced at the Australian Open this year, with her first round loss having a real impact on her ranking.
Lys had a real breakthrough at the Australian Open last year, with the German not even supposed to be in the main draw.
After losing in the third round of qualifying, Lys received a lifeline as a lucky loser and fully took advantage of this.
Lys was able to reach the second week of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time, but following her first round defeat at the Australian Open this year she will now lose 260 points from her ranking.
Who is going to win the women’s Australian Open title?
This means that Lys will now fall from her career-high ranking back down to world number 59.
Lys is next scheduled to compete at WTA 1000 tournaments in Doha and Dubai, but it is unclear as to whether that will still be the case after her injury revelation.
