The tennis at this year’s Wimbledon Championships has been excellent, as always, but the number of injuries has almost overshadowed it.
There have been an unprecedented number of retirements and walkovers to the world’s top players, including Alex de Minaur and Madison Keys.
The condition of the courts has come into question, while others have pointed to the closed roofs or the busy schedule as potential reasons.
The Tennis Gazette outlines every singles player whose Wimbledon 2024 campaign was cut short due to injury.

Wimbledon 2024 injuries
Alex de Minaur
World number nine Alex de Minaur suffered a hip injury in the final three points of his round-of-16 clash with Arthur Fils. The Australian was then not able to play against Novak Djokovic in the quarter-final on Wednesday.
Grigor Dimitrov
Grigor Dimitrov had been enjoying a resurgent 2024 season in which he had returned to the top 10 of the world rankings. Unfortunately, he endured an abductor tear in his left leg while playing against Daniil Medvedev in the fourth round and could not continue.
Lucas Pouille
Lucas Pouille injured his abdominal muscles in his second-round match against Thanasi Kokkinakis and, although he made it through to the last 32, he did not take to the court to face De Minaur.

Thanasi Kokkinakis
The reason that Pouille progressed to the next round despite his injury is that Thanasi Kokkinakis retired from their match. Pouille was considering retirement until Kokkinakis slipped and injured his knee, which meant that the Australian pulled out first.
Hubert Hurkacz
2021 Wimbledon semi-finalist Hubert Hurkacz also injured his knee in his second-round match against Fils. The Pole pulled off a flying volley in the fourth set but hurt himself in the process.
Aslan Karatsev
Aslan Karatsev suffered a groin problem against fellow Russian Karen Khachanov in the second round at this year’s Championships. The 30-year-old has suffered multiple setbacks throughout his career.
Anna Kalinskaya
Anna Kalinskaya, Jannik Sinner’s girlfriend, was forced to retire from her second-round match against 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina. She tried to play through the pain in her wrist but ultimately had to stop midway through the second set.

Madison Keys
Madison Keys was involved in a fantastic match against Jasmine Paolini on Sunday until she was forced to withdraw due to a hamstring problem. The American, who was in fine form on the grass courts, would have faced compatriot Emma Navarro in the quarter-final had she won.
Jessica Bouzas Maneiro
Jessica Bouzas Maneiro knocked out defending Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in the opening round in one of the tournament’s biggest upsets. The Spaniard also won in the next round but could not complete her third-round match because of a back issue.
Camila Osorio
Camila Osorio withdrew from Eastbourne International with a left thigh injury and, even though she won her first match at Wimbledon 2024, it was too much of a problem to complete her second-round clash with Beatriz Haddad Maia.
