Coco Gauff has arrived in New York for the US Open, where she is looking to win a third Grand Slam singles title.

Gauff has fallen to number three in the WTA Tour rankings ahead of the US Open, replaced by Iga Swiatek.

Swiatek won the Cincinnati Open ahead of the Grand Slam, and enters the tournament second in the world behind Aryna Sabalenka.

Gauff has parted ways with coach Matt Daly just before the US Open, but she has been training with biomechanic coach Gavin MacMillan.

She won the hard-court Grand Slam in 2023, and clinched her second major success at this year’s French Open.

What Coco Gauff did on US Open practice courts during rain delay

The American defeated Sabalenka in both finals, having previously lost the 2022 French Open final to Swiatek.

Gauff has now proven her determination for another success in New York, having been spotted working hard on her serve on the practice courts.

She was practicing with advice from MacMillan while every other player was inside during a rain delay at Flushing Meadows.

Why is Coco Gauff training with Gavin MacMillan ahead of the US Open?

Daly enjoyed working with Gauff, who has certainly shocked the tennis world with the timing of her decision.

But her work alongside MacMillan will be warmly welcomed by her followers, with the coach having worked wonders with current world number one Sabalenka once upon a time.

Sabalenka almost quit tennis amid constant double fault struggles, which is an area of Gauff’s game that requires clear improvement.

In spite of her stunning success, the world number three leads the way for double faults on the WTA Tour this season.

She has recorded a huge 320 in 2025 so far, over 100 more than Jelena Ostapenko who is second on the unwanted list.

Gauff does, of course, have plenty of time to improve in that area given she is just 21, but perhaps the US Open has come too soon for any marked change.
