What Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek can no longer achieve at the US Open after Aryna Sabalenka’s latest win

Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek are three of the biggest contenders for the US Open title.

Sabalenka is the defending US Open champion, and has already reached the quarterfinals after beating Cristina Bucsa.

However, her two biggest rivals are in the other half of the draw, and Sabalenka has revealed if she will watch Gauff’s match with Naomi Osaka.

Although all three of the top WTA players can still win the US Open title, Sabalenka’s latest win has confirmed that Swiatek and Gauff can no longer achieve something else.

Aryna Sabalenka has confirmed she will be world number one after the US Open

Sabalenka is the current world number one, and has held that status since October last year.

As the defending US Open champion, Sabalenka was defending 2000 ranking points and could have lost her number one ranking in New York.

However, after Sabalenka beat Bucsa, 6-1 6-4, it has confirmed that she has defended enough of those ranking points to remain at the top of the WTA rankings.

Regardless of how they fare at the US Open, Gauff and Swiatek can no longer overtake Sabalenka as the world number one.

However, there is still competition on for the world number two ranking between Swiatek and Gauff.

After Swiatek won the Cincinnati Open, she overtook Gauff as the world number two, but that could switch back after the US Open.

Gauff is currently world number two in the live WTA rankings, with Swiatek needing to better the American’s performance to overtake her.

Will Aryna Sabalenka be world number one at the end of 2025?

Although Sabalenka is guaranteed to be world number one after the US Open, she still needs to do some work to end the year at the top of the WTA rankings once again.

After winning Wimbledon, Swiatek was backed to overtake Sabalenka in the rankings by the end of the year, and the Pole is certainly her closest rival to do so.

Both Sabalenka and Swiatek are the only two players to have qualified for the WTA Finals already this year, with this a good guide to see who will end the year at the top of the rankings.

Swiatek fell to world number eight earlier this year, but she is now really closing the gap on Sabalenka, as she is less than 700 points in the live WTA race.

It will take some feat for Gauff to become world number one for the first time, as she is nearly 3000 points behind Sabalenka in the race.
