Coco Gauff and Naomi Osaka playing one another is one of the most blockbuster matches at this year’s US Open so far.

Gauff has admitted she is not that close with Osaka, and they are unlikely to be getting any closer when they are competing for a quarterfinal place at the US Open.

This is not the first time they have played in New York, but it has been six years since Osaka last beat a 15-year-old Gauff at the US Open.

There have been split predictions about who is going to win the match between Gauff and Osaka, and now world number one Aryna Sabalenka has revealed if she is going to watch the match.

Aryna Sabalenka reveals if she is going to watch Coco Gauff vs Naomi Osaka

Sabalenka made it safely into the US Open quarterfinals for a fifth consecutive year, after beating Cristina Bucsa in straight sets to continue her title defence.

While many of the questions in her post-match press conference related to her own tournament, Sabalenka was also asked if she would watch the upcoming match between Gauff and Osaka in her day away from the matchcourt.

Sabalenka revealed that she always has tennis on in the background, before confirming that she would be definitely putting some time aside to watch Gauff play Osaka on the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

“Tennis is always on in the background,” said Sabalenka. “I am always watching some matches and analysing a little bit. Not really, but a little bit!

“I am just watching what is going on at the tournament and, of course, I am going to watch that match. I will be really interested in the level and the game and I think it’s going to be a great battle, so I am excited to watch that match.”

Coco Gauff vs Naomi Osaka Head-to-Head

Although they have not played one another at the US Open since 2019, Gauff and Osaka’s upcoming match will be their sixth career meeting.

In fact, Gauff has played the former world number one every year since then apart from 2023, when Osaka gave birth to her daughter.

Despite losing their match at the US Open, Gauff actually leads the head-to-head with Osaka 3-2, with all of their previous meetings on hard courts.
