The controversial US Open mixed doubles event continues to be changed after the full entry list has been announced.

This year has seen the US Open completely overhaul the mixed doubles event, giving priority to singles players instead of doubles specialists.

Singles players getting priority is not the only change that they have made, with the US Open being heavily criticised for what they have done.

Despite the backlash, the US Open initially announced a blockbuster lineup of mixed doubles teams, but two of those have now withdrawn after the full entry list has been announced.

Two teams withdraw from the US Open mixed doubles event

Some of the standout pairings in the initial announcement of mixed doubles teams were Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu, Jannik Sinner and Emma Navarro, as well as Jack Draper and Qinwen Zheng.

However, one of those teams has now been removed from the entry list after withdrawing.

After undergoing surgery, Olympic champion Zheng has officially withdrawn from the US Open, consequently calling an end to any hopes of her playing alongside Draper in New York.

Both members of that team are currently struggling due to injury, with Draper also withdrawing from two upcoming tournaments due to an arm problem.

They are not the only team to have withdrawn from the event, with Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa also pulling out.

Although Badosa has recently struggled with injury issues, it appears that there may be another reason for this withdrawal.

Tsitsipas and Badosa were in a romantic relationship for nearly two years, but it has recently been reported that they have now parted ways and this seems to be the more likely reason for them pulling out of the US Open.

While these two teams have exited the US Open mixed doubles draw, there have also been 11 additions to the entry list.

These new teams include Wimbledon finalist Amanda Anisimova and Holger Rune, Venus Williams and Reilly Opelka, as well as a remaining tennis couple in Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter.

There are now 25 teams in the lineup for the US Open mixed doubles event next month, but only 16 of them will actually be able to play.

Which teams will actually qualify for the US Open mixed doubles event?

The 16 teams for the US Open mixed doubles event this year are decided in two ways, eight through their combined singles ranking and the other eight will be through wildcards given by the tournament.

Currently the top ranked doubles team is Sinner and Navarro, with a combined ranking of just 12.

Although the ATP world number one should safely be into the US Open mixed doubles draw, Aryna Sabalenka currently sits in ninth place alongside her currently injured partner Grigor Dimitrov.
