Tracy Austin shared what she found out about Carlos Alcaraz before the Wimbledon final which illustrates his personality.
The 21-year-old successfully defended the title at the All-England Club after defeating Novak Djokovic.
He produced a ruthless display against the Serbian, who was chasing his eighth title at SW19 to match Roger Federer.
But the 24-time Grand Slam champion had no answer to the Spaniard’s game as he completed a 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4) win.
What did Tracy Austin say about Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon?
Austin appeared on the Tennis Channel to discuss Alcaraz’s run to his second straight triumph at the grass court Grand Slam.
One of the player’s qualities is how much joy he plays tennis with and his ability to stay calm in the most pressurised moments.
This was illustrated by the Spaniard before the match, when Austin was told by her husband that he saw World number three looking as relaxed as ever.
“I will give you a little insight, my husband was there, and the morning of [the final] he was on this grass balcony above and Carlos was going to be on court 14,” she said. “They get to warm up on a court at Wimbledon, rather than walking all the way over to Aorangi.
“Carlos was walking around, kind of in between where the players tee is and Centre Court, and my husband shouted ‘come on Carlos’ and he looked up and he waved and it looked like he was so relaxed.
“Most people would be so tight in that moment, going to warm up to play a Wimbledon final. The joy that he brings, the family he has, he seems very grounded. I love that.”

Who did Carlos Alcaraz beat on the way to winning the Wimbledon title?
Alcaraz began his Wimbledon title defence by defeating qualifier Mark Lajal in a tight first round match.
Alcaraz came through Aleksandar Vukic in round two before overcoming Francis Tiafoe in five sets to reach the last 16.
A hat-trick of four set wins over Ugo Humbert, Tommy Paul and Daniil Medvedev followed, before his finals rematch with Djokoivic.
The pair contested a tight five-set classic in 2023, but a year later, the contest was not even close as Alcaraz completed a straight sets win.
Alcaraz has now won his first four Grand Slam finals, only Federer achieved more, after he won his first seven major finals.
