Novak Djokovic was able to make history at the Geneva Open after beating Hubert Hurkacz in the final.

Djokovic had been out of form coming into the ATP 250 tournament in Geneva, and was actually winless on clay.

After his defeat to Matteo Arnaldi in Madrid, Djokovic split from coach Andy Murray and has now returned to winning ways.

This resulted in a historic 100th ATP title, with Djokovic beating Hurkacz in three long sets to do so.

The symbolic stat that Novak Djokovic’s wife pointed out after he beat Hubert Hurkacz

Djokovic beat Hurkacz, 5-7 7-6(2) 7-6(2), to claim his first title since winning Paris Olympics gold last year.

After spending over three hours on court, Djokovic lifted the Geneva Open title in front of balloons that said 100 provided by the tournament.

Djokovic’s family were in attendance for this historic moment in his career, including his wife, Jelena.

In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Jelena Djokovic pointed out that Djokovic had won his first ATP title against Nicolas Massu at the Dutch Open.

Massu is a two-time Olympic gold medallist and is now the coach of Hurkacz, giving Djokovic a full circle moment.

Jelena commented on this, “What a symbolic day. For Novak’s 1st title: he beat Massú. For His 100th: he beat Massú’s student. 19 years apart. Time, the greatest storyteller.”

ATP Players with the most titles in history

After winning the Geneva Open, Djokovic has become the third ATP player in history to win 100 singles titles.

The only players ahead of Djokovic are Jimmy Connors and his former rival Roger Federer.

However, Djokovic is the only player inside the top five all-time list that is still active, ahead of Ivan Lendl and Rafael Nadal.

The 38-year-old has confirmed that he will be present for Nadal’s retirement ceremony in Paris, before Djokovic begins his Roland Garros draw against Mackenzie McDonald.
