Amanda Anisimova has once again fallen just short of a maiden Grand Slam title after losing her US Open final with Aryna Sabalenka.
Tim Henman backed Sabalenka for US Open glory, and the Belarusian did exactly that as she successfully defended her title.
Sabalenka defeated Anisimova 6-3, 7-6(7-3) at Arthur Ashe Stadium, the same venue for her victory over Jessica Pegula this time last year.
Anisimova was excited to play Sabalenka in the final of the US Open, which she reached after a superb semifinal win over Naomi Osaka.
Before that, the American knocked out Iga Swiatek, gaining revenge over the Pole for their Wimbledon final this year.

The 24-year-old lost in straight sets to Swiatek in her first Grand Slam final in London, and has now suffered the same fate to Sabalenka in New York.
But despite the defeat, Anisimova delivered a classy message to her opponent, saying on court: “It’s been a great summer.
“Losing in two finals in a row is great but it’s also super hard. I think I didn’t fight hard enough for my dreams today. But I just want to say congrats to Aryna, you are so incredible.
“I know I have to face you all the time, but I am in awe of what you have accomplished and you keep on achieving so many incredible things, so a big congratulations to you and your team. You guys are amazing.”
Amanda Anisimova messages US Open fans after her final loss to Aryna Sabalenka
As was the case with Pegula in last year’s final, the US Open fans were desperate to see Anisimova come out on top.
But the home favourite couldn’t quite compete with Sabalenka’s big-hitting, which has helped her to a fourth Grand Slam title.
Anisimova was quick to reference the fans following the match, saying on court: “Thank you everyone for coming out and supporting me at my home Slam for all of the two weeks.
“It’s been an incredible fortnight. I love playing here and it’s always been a dream of mine to play at the US Open. So thank you to everyone who has made this happen.”
Anisimova has clearly enjoyed her run on home soil, and it may just signal what is to come from the WTA number nine.
She was the underdog in both of her Grand Slam final appearances this season, but that may just change going forward given her superb rise.
