Taylor Fritz has been part of some big matches at the US Open throughout his career.
Fritz reached the US Open final last year, where he was just one win away from making history for American tennis.
As he looked to prepare for the New York major in 2025, Fritz suffered a shock defeat to Terence Atmane at the Cincinnati Open.
Fritz also lost in the first round of the US Open mixed doubles event, and will now solely switch his attention to the singles tournament.

Taylor Fritz suggests his US Open match with Matteo Berrettini was his best ever
Fritz has become the closest player to becoming the first American man to win a Grand Slam title since Andy Roddick won the US Open in 2003.
This year will be Fritz’s 10th appearance at the US Open, and in an interview with usopen.org he was asked which of his 25 previous matches is his best.
Despite reaching the final last year, Fritz claimed he had never played out of his mind, but suggested that his match against Matteo Berrettini last year was his best.
“It’s tough to say because I don’t feel like I ever played a match at the Open where I played out of my mind,” said Fritz. “I think I played really well against Berrettini in the second round last year. That was one of the best matches I played.”
En route to reaching the US Open final, Fritz beat former Wimbledon finalist Berrettini, 6-3 7-6(1) 6-1.
While Fritz is back in New York as the fourth seed in the singles draw, Berrettini has already withdrawn from the US Open.
Taylor Fritz says what he was hoping wouldn’t happen in his first appearance at the US Open
Fritz is one of the more experienced American players on the ATP Tour in 2025, but that has not always been the case.
When asked about his first memories of playing at the US Open, Fritz recalled his junior US Open debut in 2013 and explained that he just did not want to get heavily beaten.
“It was the juniors for me,” said Fritz. “I got a wild card into the qualifying of the juniors and I was so pumped to play.
“I was nervous because I hadn’t played a lot of world events, with players from other countries, so I thought the guys I was going to play against would be the best players ever. I was hoping not to get beaten really badly.”

Fritz certainly did not get beaten badly, as he won both of his qualifying matches to advance to the main draw.
The then 15-year-old would lose in his first round match in the main draw to top seed Alexander Zverev.
Just two years later, Fritz was the top seed and went all the way to win the boys singles title after beating Tommy Paul in the final.
