Taylor Fritz will now set his sights on the fourth Grand Slam of the year, after a shocking defeat at the Cincinnati Open.
Fritz fell in the fourth round of the ATP Masters 1000 event to world number 136 Terence Atmane, losing to the Frenchman 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Though it was a tough one to take for the American, he has still gained points in Cincinnati, having crashed out in the first round in 2024 to compatriot Brandon Nakashima.
Later this month, he’ll begin his US Open campaign, in the hope of returning to the final at Flushing Meadows, where Fritz lost to Jannik Sinner last season.
Recently, the US number one reflected on what went wrong in his debut appearance in a major championship match.

Taylor Fritz reflects on the 2024 US Open final against Jannik Sinner
In an interview with ‘Heavy Sports‘, Fritz said of his clash with Sinner: “I don’t think there’s anything that I’ve necessarily added that I couldn’t do then.
“At the end of the day, I didn’t show up and play as well as I think I can play in the finals against an opponent who I’m gonna need to play my best against to beat.
“I’d say it all kind of comes down to like showing up and locking in. I think anytime you get late to a tournament the person you’re playing is going to be playing well.
“They’ve played a lot of matches, you both play a lot of matches and have a lot of confidence, so it’s just kind of who plays better, competes harder.”

Taylor Fritz’s losses since reaching the Wimbledon semifinals
Fritz’s North American hard-court swing hasn’t got off to the best of starts, suffering three defeats since appearing in the Wimbledon semifinals.
He made the quarterfinals at the Washington Open after two comfortable opening victories in D.C., but was knocked out by Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in three sets.

In Toronto, the first seed advanced to the final four but exited the tournament after a straight-sets loss to Ben Shelton.
His run in Cincinnati started well enough, beating Emilio Nava and Lorenzo Sonego, but he simply couldn’t find an answer for Terence Atmane in the fourth round.
