Taylor Fritz can hold his head very high despite being beaten by Jannik Sinner in the final of the 2024 US Open.

World number one Sinner edged out 12th seed Fritz in their US Open clash, with Arthur Ashe Stadium hosting the highly-anticipated match.

Nick Kyrgios has praised Fritz after his run at Flushing Meadows, with Boris Becker congratulating Sinner on his win.

Sinner proved too difficult to get past on the night, with the world number one ultimately cruising to a 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 straight-set win.

Fritz did trouble the Italian at times, but simply failed to pick up any sort of real momentum in his home Grand Slam.

Taylor Fritz in high spirits despite US Open final loss to Jannik Sinner

The American did, however, enjoy his best-ever major run, having previously failed to make it past the quarter-final stage of any Grand Slam.

He will undoubtedly be disappointed with the final loss, but an upbeat Fritz is excited for what is to come given what happened at the US Open.

“I think the biggest thing, like I said before, I just played solid this week, but I played very within myself,” Fritz said in his final US Open press conference.

“I don’t think at any point I was like ‘Wow, I’m playing incredible, I’m playing out of my mind,’ and I think that’s just extremely reassuring to me, that I was able to get to this point just playing solid tennis.

“I know that there’s still a lot of room for improvement, and something I’ve always said my entire career is that when I do something once I just feel a lot more confident in being able to do it again.

“That’s something that’s always stuck with me. Sometimes it’s taken some time to get to a certain achievement, but I’ve always felt like once I’ve done something I gain a lot of confidence that I can do it again.

“So it is a great feeling to have gotten to this point, knowing that I’m playing well but I’m playing within myself. I feel like it’s repeatable.”

Can Taylor Fritz reach another level after his brilliant US Open run?

It has been quite the year for Fritz so far, with the American having clinched titles at Delray Beach and Eastbourne.

But his Grand Slam quarter-final curse reared its ugly head at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, where he lost to Novak Djokovic and Lorenzo Musetti respectively.

A disappointing fourth round exit was suffered in between at the French Open, but Fritz has now finished his major season on a real high at the US Open.

Importantly, Fritz strongly believes that the only way is up if he can indeed reach the level he thinks he is capable of.

The American has now risen to seventh in the world rankings, with a return to at least his career-high fifth place certainly on the cards in the near future.

To do that, however, Fritz will need to overcome the big names in men’s tennis, having lost to eventual champion Djokovic in the quarter-finals of the 2023 US Open.
