Playing field

The headline acts in the playing field at Swiss Indoors Basel this week are Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton. The US pair, ranked fourth and sixth in the world, respectively, are hotly-fancied to challenge for the title at St. Jakobshalle.

Fritz has been praised recently for improving his agility and speed, and has even been tipped to beat the likes of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz in the near future.

However, Pam Shriver has concerns over Ben Shelton’s injury issues. It remains to be seen whether his pesky shoulder problem will resurface again.

Other notable names include world number 10 Holger Rune — who also featured at last year’s Six Kings Slam — and world number 12 Casper Ruud.

Elsewhere, fellow top 20 ATP players like Félix Auger-Aliassime, Jiri Lehecka, Jakub Mensik, and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will be present in Basel.

Valentin Vacherot is a wildcard entry for the tournament on the back of his stunning Shanghai Masters victory earlier this month.

Prize money

There is a total prize pot worth $2,915,972 on offer at the Swiss Indoors Basel this year — that’s increased from the $2,777,914 offered in 2024.

The overall winner in Basel will receive $549,574 while the runner-up will get $295,709. Making it to the semi-finals earns players a decent reward, with $157,614 available.

Here’s a breakdown of the full prize money offering at Swiss Indoors Basel:

As an ATP 500 event, there are obviously big points on offer at the Swiss Indoors Basel, too. The winner will receive 500 points, while the finalist will get 330 points.

Here’s a rundown of how points will be shared at the tournament:

Swiss Indoors Basel predictions

Now, the team at The Tennis Gazette offers up their predictions for the Swiss Indoors Basel.

Matthew Johns: Felix Auger-Aliassime is my pick for the ATP 500 event in Basel. He loves the indoor hard court season and has twice won the Swiss Indoors title before, so I think there’s a very strong chance that he makes it a hat-trick in 2025.

Lee Clarke: Ben Shelton lost in the final last year but much like Sinner in Vienna there are some doubts about his fitness. As a result, I’m going for Jakub Mensik. He’s won a 1000 event this year and I fancy him to finish with a flourish.

Peter Lynch: I can see Felix Auger-Aliassime continuing his recent strong run of form and lifting the trophy, helping his ATP Finals chances in a major way.
