Coco Gauff finally has her hands on the French Open trophy after beating Aryna Sabalenka in the final of the Grand Slam.

WTA number one Sabalenka claimed she was too emotional against Gauff, having lost their final despite winning the first set.

The American recovered to beat Sabalenka 6-7(5-7), 6-2, 6-4, thus securing her first French Open title and second Grand Slam title.

The Belarusian now has three wins and three defeats from the six Grand Slam finals she has reached in her career.

Gauff meanwhile has two wins and one defeat, having also overcome Sabalenka to clinch the 2023 US Open title.

Further praise for Gauff has arrived from another tennis legend, with former world number one Tracy Austin getting in on the act.

She wrote on X: “Congratulations Coco Gauff on your 2nd Major. Incredibly resilient, had fantastic composure, fight, and match management. Well deserved!”

Gauff needed two hours and 38 minutes to secure the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen, with Court Philippe-Chatrier having played host to the battle.

The top two players in the world rankings played out a superb contest, much to the delight of those watching on inside the iconic venue.

Their WTA rankings are, however, unaffected despite the result, with Sabalenka remaining number one and Gauff staying at number two.

But it is the American who leaves the event as the 2025 clay-court leader, with her 18 main draw victories one ahead of Sabalenka.

She has also managed to emulate a legendary figure with the success in Paris, having become the first American to win at Roland Garros since Serena Williams in 2015.

But both Gauff and Sabalenka can hold their heads high after fantastic tournaments, with their rivalry perhaps set to become the biggest on the WTA Tour in the near future.
