Coco Gauff outlasted Aryna Sabalenka to win the French Open title.

Three years ago Gauff lost the championship match in Paris to Iga Swiatek.

Standing on the other side of the net in 2025 however was a different opponent in Sabalenka, who is just as formidable.

The American had already defeated her in a Grand Slam final and Coco Gauff replicated that feat by outlasting Sabalenka in Paris on a blustery Saturday afternoon.

Did Coco Gauff notice Aryna Sabalenka’s anger on court?

Aryna Sabalenka was visibly frustrated during the French Open against Gauff.

She was seen gesturing towards her box and complaining to herself after missing certain shots or being unable to take control of certain points.

During the post-match presentation Gauff was asked if she noticed her opponent’s body language on the other side of the net during the match.

Gauff responded: “I was aware a little bit but also I don’t pay attention too much, especially against Aryna. I have seen her get mad and then go on a tear so I was just trying not to pay attention to it today.

“I knew I was frustrated, even though maybe I didn’t show it as much. But in my head I was frustrated. I know if I am frustrated then my opponent has to be frustrated.

“It was not a day for great tennis, honestly. I don’t know too many people who could play great tennis today but it’s part of the sport and part of playing outside. You just don’t know what to expect, especially in Paris.”

Coco Gauff makes history with her first two Grand Slam title wins

Gauff claimed her first Grand Slam title at the 2023 US Open before backing it up with her French Open victory.

She won both finals against Sabalenka and both occurred in three sets, which ensured Gauff made more history.

Gauff became the first woman in WTA Tour history to come back from a set down to win their first two major titles.

She is also the first American woman to win the clay court Grand Slam since Serena Williams in 2015, and she is looking forward to adding more titles to her list of achievements.
