Patrick McEnroe was left in awe by the brilliance of Carlos Alcaraz after watching him at the Laver Cup.
As Team World’s vice-captain at the tournament, he had one of the best seats in the house to watch the players perform.
There were no competitors more impressive than the French Open and Wimbledon champion, who stole the show on his Laver Cup debut.
Team Europe defeated Team World 13-11, and Alcaraz won eight of those points, including victory in the final match of the tournament against Taylor Fritz.

What did Patrick McEnroe say about Carlos Alcaraz’s Laver Cup performances?
Carlos Alcaraz entered the Laver Cup with some uncertainty around how he would perform after his shocking second-round exit from the US Open in August.
However, Alcaraz performed well in the Davis Cup group stages just before the Laver Cup and he only grew in confidence in Berlin.
Not only did McEnroe praise Alcaraz’s game, but he also credited the Spaniard for how he approaches the game which puts him in the best position to succeed.
“That’s the thing that stood out to me the most. How professional these guys are, their attention to detail of everything they do and watching them play up close and personal is amazing,” he told Tennis Channel.

“I marvel over the course of every new generation of players, watching Alcaraz this year was like these guys are taking it to another level. You are always wondering how can the game get better, how can players improve?
“Then you watch this guy taking the ball pretty much on the dead run, early, cutting the angle off and hitting like a Mac-10. Like it’s normal. Like that’s a normal play. That to me is just amazing to watch up close and personal.”
Who did Carlos Alcaraz beat at the Laver Cup?
Alcaraz played four matches for Team Europe at the 2024 Laver Cup.
In his two singles matches, he defeated Ben Shelton 6-4, 6-4, before overcoming Fritz in the final match to win the title for Team Europe.
