Carlos Alcaraz described the difference between competing solo and playing in a team event such as the Laver Cup.

The French Open and Wimbledon champion claimed eight of Team Europe’s 13 points as they won the Laver Cup for the fifth time.

The latest edition of the team event went right down to the wire as the last match proved to be winner-take-all affair with Europe trailing by one point.

Alcaraz defeated Taylor Fritz to ensure Europe claimed a 13-11 win and in the process ensured Bjorn Borg won his final Laver Cup as team captain.

How does Carlos Alcaraz compare playing in a team event like the Laver Cup to playing solo?

The Laver Cup is a unique event which allows players to communicate with each other in a way that is not often seen in the usual solo events on the ATP Tour.

It also provides players with the opportunity to seek advice from the captains who are legends of the game, in addition to tennis who are in attendance as well as their teammates.

Alcaraz enjoyed his first Laver Cup experience and commented on the difference in feeling when competing in a team environment versus when he is competing solo.

“It was a different feeling. Obviously having them [Team Europe] supporting me behind me, it is different,” Alcaraz told reporters after sealing victory for Team Europe in the Laver Cup.

“They try to just stay there and show me good energy all the time that makes me feel really comfortable on court and trying to pull out all the nerves and play good tennis.”

What is Carlos Alcaraz’s next team event?

Alcaraz is next scheduled to play in a team event in November when Spain plays in the ‘Final 8’ stage of the Davis Cup.

He helped them go through the group stages undefeated earlier this month as they beat Australia, France and Czechia.

The ‘Final 8’ stage will be held in Malaga and Spain will begin this stage of the competition in front of their home fans against the Netherlands.

The other teams also still in the competition are the USA, Australia, Germany, Canada, Argentina and defending champions, Italy, whose team could feature World number one Jannik Sinner.
