Taylor Fritz has not had things all his own way at the Wimbledon Championships.
The American entered the grass court Grand Slam in good form after winning the Stuttgart and Eastbourne Open titles.
But at the All-England Club Fritz has had to work extremely hard for his spot in the fourth round. He battled past Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Gabriel Diallo before beating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in round three.
With his spot in the last 16 secured, Nick Kyrgios has now shared his thoughts on if Fritz can win the Wimbledon title.
Nick Kyrgios thinks Taylor Fritz can do some damage at Wimbledon
Taylor Fritz is desperate to achieve his dream and become a Grand Slam champion.
He came closest to achieving that goal when he reached the 2024 US Open final, but lost to Jannik Sinner in straight sets.
At Wimbledon, Fritz has shown some great fighting qualities to reach round four despite losing five sets over the course of his first three matches.
Therefore, 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Kyrgios thinks Fritz can have a deep run in the tournament, but there are plenty of tough competitors still in the draw.
“The way Fritz has been playing you would probably say it’s one of the hardest draws a seed has had. He played Perricard, then Diallo and now Davidovich-Fokina as well,” Kyrgios told talkSPORT.
“Those are three guys who are very dangerous on grass and Fritz has come through and he is saying his body is feeling better and better. I honestly would not count out Fritz to be able to do some damage against those guys.
“Djokovic looked incredible against Dan Evans as well. But the way Sinner and Alcaraz are playing and dialled in, it’s pretty tough to go through those guys.”
Who is Taylor Fritz’s next opponent?
Fritz will take on Jordan Thompson for a spot in the Wimbledon quarter-finals.
Like the world number five, Thompson has also dropped five sets on the way to reaching the last 16 in the men’s singles for the first time in his career.
The pair have played each other on two previous occasions, with one victory apiece. However, it was Thompson who won their last meeting on grass, which was a 6-4 6-3 win at Queen’s in 2024.
Fritz will be hoping to avenge that defeat and reach the last eight at SW19 for the second successive year and third time in his career.
