Coco Gauff talks for the first time after reaching the semifinals in China with win over Eva Lys

Coco Gauff is through to the final of the China Open after a dominant win over German sensation Eva Lys.

Gauff came through a controversial match with Belinda Bencic earlier this week, and she’s got better as the tournament has progressed.

Gauff has taken aim at the WTA this week, too, but it would appear that she’s still keen to let her tennis do the talking.

Lys has enjoyed a brilliant week to reach the quarterfinal, and it won’t be the last time she’s competing against the top players on the WTA Tour.

Gauff has cited a need to improve earlier in the tournament, and now she can look forward to another semifinal.

Coco Gauff reacts after beating Eva Lys to reach China Open semifinal

Gauff has called the China Open a practice tournament before this event, and clearly, she’s feeling very relaxed on the court.

After her straight-sets victory over Lys, she’s been quizzed on how she felt she played against the German.

She said: “I’m happy with how I played today. She is a tough opponent. She hit some incredible shots on the run, so I was trying my best to play my best tennis and stay aggressive.”

Gauff, at 21, is still improving all the time, and she’s also confessed that there are some tweaks she’d like to make at this tournament.

She continued: “Just staying confident in my game and not being too passive when I had the lead. I may have played one passive point in that last game, but after that I thought I played good tennis.”

Gauff is going to have a good crack at winning this tournament and she would dearly love to retain her title again.

The American has had a pretty solid year after winning the French Open, although since that triumph, things haven’t gone too well.

A first-round exit at Wimbledon and a fourth-round departure at the US Open don’t really cut it for Gauff and she will now be looking for more.

Still, this was a good performance from the world number three, and the challenge now is to head to the WTA Finals bang in form.
