Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have dominated the ATP Tour once again in 2025.

Sinner beat Alcaraz to win the ATP Finals, in what was the final tournament of both their seasons.

Alcaraz’s season has ended due to a hamstring injury, while Sinner had already chosen to miss the Davis Cup Finals.

Sinner received a lot of backlash for missing the Davis Cup, and now his compatriot Matteo Berrettini has revealed what he thinks about the impact both Alcaraz and his fellow Italian have had on the ATP Tour.

Matteo Berrettini explains how Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have changed tennis

Former Wimbledon finalist Berrettini is part of the Italian lineup for the Davis Cup Finals this week without Sinner, as they look to win the title for a third consecutive year.

Sinner and Alcaraz made Italian TV history after playing in the final of the ATP Finals in Turin, and Berrettini has been asked about the impact the top two players have had on tennis as a whole.

When speaking to media ahead of the Davis Cup Finals as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Berrettini suggested that he cannot believe how much the interest in tennis has changed in Italy due to Sinner and Alcaraz’s budding rivalry.

“Sinner and Alcaraz are making a huge impact now,” said Berrettini. “Not just in Italy, but around the world. It was a major event, but a few years ago it would have been unthinkable.

“Thanks to Jannik, number one. Actually, number two. But also thanks to us, there’s so much tennis to watch. People have become passionate about our stories.”

“Berrettini added, “We’re there watching Alcaraz and Sinner. And maybe beating them when the time comes.”

Matteo Berrettini reveals what his Italian teammates did when he was injured

Sinner and Alcaraz were not the only topic of conversation surrounding the Italian Davis Cup press conference, with Berrettini also discussing his own issues.

Berrettini was surrounded by retirement rumours earlier this year after struggling with injury throughout the 2025 season.

However, after recently returning to tennis, Berrettini has done something for the first time since April and he appears to be in a much better place physically.

When asked about how motivated he is to win the Davis Cup once again, Berrettini revealed how supportive his compatriots were when he was on the injury sidelines.

“Yeah, it’s always been a great pleasure, great honor being part of the team,” Berrettini said in the press conference. “The captain always knew it, I used the Davis Cup as a goal to come back when I was injured, feeling the love of the guys. Everybody texted me when I wasn’t feeling my best, helped me a lot. I’m really happy here to represent Italy once again.

“Hopefully we are going to have a good run as well this year. But we know that every match, it’s tough. Like the Captain said, Davis Cup is full of surprises. We have to be ready. We have to be focused. Ranking doesn’t really matter. I think it’s all about wanting to win the match and the tie and think about the next point. I hope we are ready for that.”

Will you still be watching the Davis Cup without Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner this year?

Berrettini will be joined by Flavio Cobolli, Lorenzo Sonego, Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli in Bologna as they look to win the Davis Cup for a third consecutive year.

Italy will begin their title defence on Wednesday, November 19, as they take on Austria.
