As per journalist Giuseppe Candela, between free-to-air channel Rai 2 and Sky, a total of 6.7 million Italians tuned in for the match between Sinner and Alcaraz.
Rai 2 enjoyed the majority of viewers, with 5,429,000, while Sky added another 1.3 million onto the sum, according to Tennis World Italia.
The final took a 35.7% TV audience share in the country, surpassing the 34.3% share of the World Cup qualifying match between Italy’s national football team and Norway, which took place the same evening.
Candela described the figures as ‘historic’, with Sinner skyrocketing the popularity of tennis in Italy this year.
