Madison Keys is one of the top seeds in the women’s singles draw at Wimbledon this year.

Keys won matches at the Queen’s Club, but lost in her only match in Berlin to eventual champion Marketa Vondrousova.

The world number six is yet to find the same form on grass that she enjoyed earlier this year, where Keys won the Australian Open title in Melbourne.

Keys is one of the top American hopes for Wimbledon, and has responded to questions about her previous performances at the grass court major.

Madison Keys delivers blunt response when asked if she could have achieved more at Wimbledon

Despite winning her only Grand Slam title to date on hard courts, Keys has called grass her favourite surface.

Keys has won three grass court titles in her career, and has twice reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon.

However, last year saw a heartbreaking scene for Keys, who retired from her match against Jasmine Paolini due to a hamstring problem and left the court in tears.

When asked in her pre-tournament press conference about whether she should have done better at Wimbledon in her 10 previous appearances, Keys was adamant that this is not the case.

“No,” said Keys. “I think I’ve had some really good Wimbledon’s and obviously I’ve lost to people who ended up making finals and it’s also it’s a really tough surface, but I also think that there’s no real ‘you should have done better’. It doesn’t really exist.

“That’s not a thing. You have the opportunities and you put yourself in those positions and sometimes you are able to win. Sometimes you lose. But I don’t really think that you have the ability to kind of or that you should expect more ever.”

Who could Madison Keys play at Wimbledon this year?

As the sixth seed at Wimbledon this year, Keys is expected to reach at least the quarter-finals.

Keys will begin her campaign at SW19 against Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse, who she only narrowly beat en route to winning the Australian Open earlier this year.

The first seed Keys could play is 2021 US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez, with Paula Badosa and Donna Vekic also potential obstacles to her reaching the quarter-finals.

Keys’ potential quarter-final opponent could be world number one Aryna Sabalenka, in a rematch of the Australian Open final.
