The Wimbledon championships are set to begin on the 30th of June, following the conclusion of Queen’s and the Halle Open.

On the women’s side, Barbora Krejcikova is currently the defending champion, having defeated Jasmine Paolini in the final last year.

There has been a different champion every year since 2016, when Serena Williams won the title for the second year in a row, who also remains the last American woman to win the singles tournament.

Ahead of the third Grand Slam of the year, three-time Wimbledon finalist Andy Roddick picked his favourite from the US to go all the way at the All England Club.

Andy Roddick picks his favourite to win the Wimbledon title

Speaking on Tennis Channel Live, Roddick said: “Draws aside, which believe it or not play a huge part in tournaments, I like Madi Keys from the American side.

“I think she’s my favourite, I think she’s well-versed, she’s had good results on the grass.

“She was heading towards a big result last year before she got hurt, I think against Paolini, I think she was up four one in the third, if I’m wrong it’s not by much.

“But also since then, she has won a slam, she’s going to be more comfortable in that scenario.

“I do still think that Jess Pegula has a big run at Wimbledon ahead of her. I know she kind of let that lead get away from her against Vondrousova the year that she won.

“But listen, the US women can play on this stuff for sure.”

Madison Keys’ record at Wimbledon throughout her career

Madison Keys has made 10 appearances at Wimbledon throughout her career, with her best campaign a quarter-final finish, which she achieved in 2015 and 2023.

It’s the only major Keys has not made the semi-finals of, tallying a win percentage of 71%, her second lowest of the four tournaments.

US Open72%

Last year, in her fourth-round matchup with Paolini, the American was up 5-2 in the third set with a double break, but had to retire due to injury.

Having now clinched a maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open this year, Keys will hope to go further at the championships this year to add to her major tally.
