Lorenzo Musetti has reached his first ATP Masters 1000 final after coming back to beat Alex de Minaur in Monte Carlo.

Musetti has played four three set matches en route to reaching the Monte Carlo Masters final, coming from behind in all bar one of his matches.

This includes Musetti dethroning Stefanos Tsitsipas, who had won the Monte Carlo Masters title in three of the past four seasons.

As a result of showing his fighting spirit in Monte Carlo this week, the Italian has set up a final match with history maker Carlos Alcaraz.

Lorenzo Musetti explains why he is shocked after reaching the Monte Carlo Masters final

Prior to the Monte Carlo Masters getting underway, Musetti had struggled with injury and had won only seven of his 12 matches in the 2025 season.

When speaking in his post-match press conference after beating De Minaur, Musetti admitted that even he was surprised that he had reached the final.

“This result means a lot, but it is unexpected,” said Musetti. “When I look at how I started at the beginning of the week… of course, I dreamed of being in the final and competing for the top 10, but it seemed far away.

“Today, I just want to enjoy, tomorrow there will be time to think about the game plan for the final, I need to manage all these emotions well to be ready.”

This will be the second time that Musetti and Alcaraz have gone head-to-head in a clay court final, with their previous coming at the Hamburg Open in 2022.

Musetti won on that occasion in three sets, and while he claimed that they have both changed a lot since then, he is still hoping to have a similar mindset.

“That final was a long time ago, three years ago, both of us have changed a lot,” said the 23-year-old. “I remember it as an epic final, a rollercoaster, losing championship points in the second set and then coming back. The key to that victory was purely mental, so I hope tomorrow is the same.”

Lorenzo Musetti’s record in ATP Finals

The Monte Carlo Masters final will be Musetti’s sixth ATP final, but by far the biggest so far.

Musetti has reached a final on every surface in his career, winning a title on both a clay court and a hard court.

Despite winning the first two finals of his career in 2022, Musetti has since been unable to add to his trophy cabinet after losing all three of his championship matches last year.

2024Chengdu Open (ATP 250)Juncheng Shang beat Musetti, 7-6(4) 6-1

Musetti be looking to turn that final record around against Alcaraz at the Monte Carlo Masters, with a victory also securing his place in the top 10 for the first time.

However, Alcaraz is likely to be feeling fresher than Musetti, who has spent three hours and 51 minutes longer on court than his final opponent.
