Carlos Alcaraz has progressed into his first career Monte Carlo Masters final after beating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

Alcaraz was winless in Monte Carlo prior to this week, but has now won four consecutive matches to put himself on the brink of history.

However, it has not been all plain-sailing for Alcaraz, who nearly lost to Arthur Fils and was forced to fightback in his quarter-final.

This is the biggest final of the year so far for the Spaniard, with Alcaraz losing to David Goffin prior to getting his clay court season underway.

Carlos Alcaraz equals Rafael Nadal record after reaching Monte Carlo final

After reaching his first ever final at the prestigious Monte Carlo Masters, Alcaraz has joined an exclusive list that includes four legendary players and himself.

These are the five players who have reached the final of both the Monte Carlo Masters and Roland Garros aged 21 or under.

This list features Swedish players Bjorn Borg and Mats Wilander, with Alcaraz now joining his fellow Spaniard’s Carlos Moya and the recently retired Rafael Nadal.

All of the four players to have reached both the Monte Carlo Masters and Roland Garros finals before turning 22-years-old won at least one title at each tournament.

Nadal was the most successful out of these players, winning three consecutive titles at each event from the age of 19.

Alcaraz, who won Roland Garros last year, will be looking to join these former champions when he plays Lorenzo Musetti in the final.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Lorenzo Musetti head-to-head

This will be the fifth meeting between Alcaraz and Musetti on the main ATP Tour, with the Spaniard leading the head-to-head after winning their last three meetings.

However, it is actually Musetti who has won their only previous final, beating Alcaraz in the championship match at the Hamburg Open in 2022.

Two of their four meetings have come on clay, where both players appear to excel after enjoying impressive weeks at the Monte Carlo Masters.

Not only is there the opportunity to lift the coveted Monte Carlo Masters, but the result of the final can also have a big impact on the ATP rankings.

If Alcaraz is to win the title, he will overtake the struggling Alexander Zverev as world number two, while Musetti can make his top 10 debut if he causes an upset.
