Jessica Pegula has just switched her focus to the Rome Masters, having suffered a shock exit at the Madrid Open.
Pegula has been backed for US Open success, but she fell in just her second match at the latest WTA 1000 event in the calendar.
American star Pegula is currently ranked third in the world, and was the third seed at the ongoing Madrid Open in Spain.
She was handed a bye into round two where she beat Eva Lys 6-2, 6-2, before suffering a shock third round loss.
After knocking out Ons Jabeur, Moyuka Uchijima clinched another upset with her 6-3, 6-2 win over Pegula.

What WTA Tour titles has Jessica Pegula won in her career so far?
Pegula’s update comes as the Rome Masters nears, with the Italian event representing another WTA 1000 tournament.
It arrives immediately after the Madrid Open, continuing the clay court spell and the build up to the French Open.
And Pegula will be doing her utmost to be fully fit for the upcoming events, having enjoyed a superb start to 2025.
Along with occupying a career-high rank, she already boasts two titles, having triumphed in Charleston and Austin.
| Year | Titles | Tournaments |
| 2025 | 2 | Charleston, Austin |
| 2024 | 2 | Toronto, Berlin |
| 2023 | 2 | Montreal, Seoul |
| 2022 | 1 | Guadalajara |
| 2019 | 1 | Washington, D.C. |
Grand Slam success has, however, so far been elusive, with the American going furthest at last year’s US Open.
She has reached at least the quarter-finals of all four major tournaments, and was the runner-up as Aryna Sabalenka lifted the 2024 US Open trophy.
