Jannik Sinner’s coach posts wordless reaction after Italy win the Davis Cup final

Jannik Sinner secured the winning point for Italy as they successfully defended their Davis Cup title by beating the Netherlands.

Sinner beat Tallon Griekspoor 7-6(7-2), 6-2 in match two of the Davis Cup final, with his teammate Matteo Berrettini having beaten Botic van de Zandschulp 6-4, 6-2.

World number one Sinner says he has improved his serving in 2024, which has been full of success for the Italian.

He has now added the Davis Cup trophy to his collection, with Italy having also beaten Australia 2-0 in last year’s final.

The latest success caps a superb week for Italian tennis after Italy secured the Billie Jean King Cup title, also in Malaga.

The likes of WTA Tour number four Jasmine Paolini helped the side emerge victorious, with her male counterpart Sinner playing an equally crucial role for the men’s team.

And his displays have now earned praise from his coach Darren Cahill, who shared his delight on social media.

Roger Federer’s former coach Ivan Ljubicic also celebrated Italy’s Davis Cup Finals success, simply writing “Bravi” on X.

Jannik Sinner completes stunning 2024 with Davis Cup title

Sinner has enjoyed a simply stunning time on the court this year, with the world number one having kick-started it in superb fashion with his Australian Open win.

He then ended his Grand Slam year with the US Open crown, with a total of eight titles going his way in 2024.

Sinner also earned big money for winning the inaugural Six Kings Slam in Riyadh, and will end the year as the deserved world number one.

Perhaps the only question now involves how long he can stay at the top, with fellow star Carlos Alcaraz certain to push him all the way in 2025.

Sinner’s Italian teammates do, of course, also deserve huge credit for the Davis Cup success, but fittingly it was the two-time Grand Slam champion who eventually clinched the trophy.

His victory over Griekspoor was his 73rd win of the season, with the Italian ending 2024 with a 73-6 win-loss record.
