Jannik Sinner is busy preparing for another season on the ATP Tour, having been one of the standout players in 2025

Sinner will return to tennis at the Australian Open, a tournament the Italian superstar won in both 2024 and 2025.

Currently number two in the ATP Tour rankings, Sinner has been backed to win the Australian Open for the third successive year.

The first Grand Slam of the season returns later this month, and will represent the Italian’s first attempt at a fifth major career title.

Jannik Sinner compared to Andre Agassi, Novak Djokovic and Pete Sampras

Before that, he has received high praise from Coco Gauff’s former coach Brad Gilbert, who has compared Sinner to three legends of the game.

He said on The Big T Podcast: “You put Andre [Agassi] and Novak Djokovic in the blender, you come up with Sinner.

“And yet he’s a lot more methodical on the court, like a Pete Sampras. He’s very unflappable.

“But I feel like the situation now with [Carlos] Alcaraz, obviously, we don’t know what’s going to happen going forward, but I foresee Sinner having a monster season. I don’t think he’ll lose more than five times in 2026.

“I think if he gets over Alcaraz and starts beating him, you know… I think he’s going to win three majors in ’26.

“A bunch of the [best players] of all time won three majors in a season. [John] McEnroe went 82-3. Fed (Roger Federer) had a couple of unbelievable seasons in ’05 and ’06, I think. That’s where we’re headed, potentially.”

Can Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz rival the all-time Grand Slam greats?

It has indeed been Sinner and Alcaraz who have dominated the ATP Tour lately, combining to win each of the last eight Grand Slam titles.

They’ve claimed four each across 2024 and 2025, with Novak Djokovic representing the last player outside the two to win a major.

Djokovic tops the men’s all-time Grand Slam titles list with 24, while Sampras won 14 and Agassi won eight.

Sinner and Alcaraz certainly have a long way to go to try and catch them, but they have enjoyed superb starts.

The Italian has won four Grand Slam titles so far, with the Spaniard ahead of him on six, while both players are just one shy of completing the career Grand Slam already.
