Jannik Sinner is in Beijing ready to return to action at the China Open.

The 23-year-old is preparing to compete for the first time since winning his first US Open title on September 8.

The Italian is now the undisputed World number one following his big win in New York and poor results for Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.

Now Sinner has travelled to the Far East for the Asian swing and he is determined to continue his momentum from North America.

What has Jannik Sinner learned from his practice sessions before the China Open?

After celebrating his US Open victory, Jannik Sinner has been hard at work preparing for the final portion of a long and gruelling 2024 season.

Sometimes players can have a hangover after a successful tournament or an impressive section of the campaign.

For example, Alcaraz began the summer by winning the French Open and Wimbledon, but after claiming an Olympic silver medal, he produced poor showings in Cincinnati and the US Open, winning a total of just one match over the two events.

But Sinner does not expect to suffer the same fate, as he has been trying to understand what to improve in his practice sessions to maintain his good form in his upcoming matches.

“No. I think I always try to improve,” he told reporters in Beijing. “Doesn’t really matter the result I have, what I managed to achieve, I always try to understand myself and what I have to improve off the court and on the court, all these things.

“Of course, I’m excited to be back and play tournaments because this is what I practice for. Even in the practice sessions, I always try to understand what’s working and what’s not working.

“Obviously we found out that we have some areas where I have to improve. It’s all part of the process what I have. I think this is the most exciting part.”

Who is Jannik Sinner playing at the China Open?

Sinner will commence his quest for the China Open against Chile’s Nicolas Jarry.

The big serving World number 28 made his breakthrough on the world stage by reaching the final of the Italian Open in May.

But since then the 28-year-old’s form has plummeted and has claimed just victory on the ATP Tour in four months.

Jarry has a tough task against Sinner on Thursday, but he has won their only previous encounter which came at the 2019 Libema Open.

He won 7-6(4), 6-3 that day, but Sinner is a much different player in 2024 and enters their match as the heavy favourite.
