Jannik Sinner overcame Taylor Fritz in straight sets to win the US Open for the first time in his career.
Sinner beat Fritz 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 in the 2024 US Open final at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows, securing his second career Grand Slam title.
The world number one’s first arrived earlier this year at the Australian Open, with Boris Becker now congratulating Sinner on his latest success.
The US Open crowd were eager for an American to end the men’s singles drought, with Andy Roddick their last champion all the way back in 2003.
An American finalist was guaranteed thanks to the semi-final clash between Fritz and Frances Tiafoe, which the latter won in five sets.

Jannik Sinner makes Taylor Fritz prediction after their US Open final
Tiafoe seemingly ran out of energy in that semi-final match against his compatriot, with Fritz perhaps undergoing a similar struggle against Sinner in the final.
The Italian proved too strong for the American on the night, but Sinner is fully confident that it will be the first of many Grand Slam finals for Fritz.
“I’d like to start with Taylor,” Sinner said on his on-court interview. “I know how much work he puts in, you’re doing an amazing job.
“Congrats to you Taylor and your whole team. It’s so nice to see you in big stages like this and I’m quite sure that you’re going to play many of those. I wish you the best of luck for the future.”

Fritz enjoyed a superb run in Flushing Meadows, with the 12th seed finally making it beyond a Grand Slam quarter-final.
The likes of Matteo Berrettini, Casper Ruud and Alexander Zverev were all very impressively outdone by the American, along with the in-form Tiafoe.

Tiafoe had only just reached the Cincinnati Open final, where he lost to Sinner, with Fritz then unable to secure revenge for his compatriot in the US Open final.
Fritz has now climbed a huge five places to number seven in the world rankings thanks to his efforts on the hard courts.
The American will now be eyeing those ahead of him, having just overtaken the likes of Ruud, Grigor Dimitrov and Hubert Hurkacz.
