Not only is the Italian on a 17-match winning streak, but Sinner’s biggest rival Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Madrid Open due to a wrist injury.
Novak Djokovic is also currently dealing with an injury, and it appears that Sinner may have a potential injury of his own.

Jannik Sinner cuts practice session short ahead of the Madrid Open
Sinner has been practicing in Madrid ahead of the Masters 1000 tournament getting underway, and he most recently hit with Argentine Thiago Agustin Tirante.
As reported by La Gazetta dello Sport, Sinner and Tirante were scheduled to practice for two hours in the Spanish capital.
However, this practice was cut short after Sinner reportedly complained of some discomfort in his left shoulder and decided not to continue.

This appears to have been a more precautionary decision from Sinner, who later appeared at the Laureus World Sports Awards, where he was beaten by Alcaraz to the Sportsman of the Year Award.
Sinner also features on the upcoming practice schedule in Madrid, with a planned one-and-a-half hour session with Francisco Cerundolo.

As the top seed, Sinner receives an automatic bye to the second round, where he will play either a qualifier or lucky loser.
The first seeded player Sinner can face is Canadian Gabriel Diallo, who he beat in their only previous meeting last year.
Some of the potential threats to Sinner in his half of the draw include Ben Shelton, Alex de Minaur and Tommy Paul, but he has a combined 26-2 record against them.

Sinner has never surpassed the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open before, but he looks a heavy favorite to do so in 2026.
Particularly as his forecasted final opponent is Alexander Zverev, who Sinner has won his last eight matches against, including three already this year.
