Jannik Sinner is due to return from his suspension at the Italian Open, but this is not the only tournament he will play in before the French Open.
In less than two months the ATP’s World number one will be eligible to compete after a three-month doping ban.
After Jannik Sinner agreed to a settlement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the ban commenced in February and will come to an end on May 4.
The 23-year-old is aiming to peak in time for Roland Garros and hopes adding another tournament to his schedule will help him achieve that.
Jannik Sinner set to play in Germany’s Hamburg Open before the French Open
Sinner is due to play at his home tournament of the Italian Open, which will be his first event after his suspension.
The French Open is due to commence on May 25, just a week after the clay court tournament in Rome has finished.
But Sinner is now confirmed to play at the Hamburg Open, which will run from May 17-24, a day before the French Open gets underway.
This ATP Tour event is worth 500 ranking points and it will be the first time that Sinner will play in the tournament.
When he returns to action in Rome, Sinner will be searching for his second title of the season after successfully the defending the Australian Open title in January.

When did Jannik Sinner last play in Germany?
2025 will mark Sinner’s first appearance at the Hamburg Open, but he is no stranger to playing in Germany.
In 2024, Sinner played on the grass courts at the Halle Open, ahead of the Wimbledon Championships.
It took some time for him to settle, as Sinner’s first three matches went the distance against Tallon Griekspoor, Fábián Marozsán and Jan-Lennard Struff respectively.
Sinner was then able to get past Zhang Zhizhen 6-4, 7-6, before facing Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in the final.
Sinner outlasted Hurkacz in two tiebreak sets to claim the first grass court title of his career, and he will hope to replicate that success on the clay in Hamburg.
