Jannik Sinner has fallen just short of a maiden French Open title after narrowly losing his final with Carlos Alcaraz.
Alcaraz congratulated Sinner on his run at the French Open, which represents the closest he has come to clinching the title at Roland Garros.
Sinner battled to a two-set lead against Alcaraz, but ended up losing their latest clash 4-6, 6-7(4-7), 6-4, 7-6(7-3), 7-6(10-2).
Rafael Nadal has congratulated Alcaraz on his win at the French Open, where he has successfully defended his title.
The ATP number two beat Alexander Zverev in the 2024 Roland Garros final, and now has five career Grand Slam titles to his name.

Jannik Sinner discusses atmosphere in French Open final vs Carlos Alcaraz
Sinner meanwhile remains on three, with the Italian having been asked in his post-match press conference what it meant to be a part of one of the greatest matches ever.
He was reminded of matches involving the likes of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic and Nadal, along with Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe.
Sinner responded: “I think every rivalry is different. Back in the day they played a little bit different tennis. Now the ball is going fast and it’s very physical.
“It’s slightly different from my point of view but you cannot compare. I was lucky enough to play against Novak and against Rafa in Grand Slams.
“Roger I never played unfortunately but beating these guys takes a lot. And I have the same feeling with Carlos and against some other players.
“It’s good to see that we can produce also tennis like this because I think it’s good for the whole movement of tennis and the crowds, it was a good atmosphere today and also to be part of it, so it’s very special.
“Of course I am happy to be part of this but I would be more happier if I was lifting the big trophy. But as I said you can’t change it now.”
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner continue Grand Slam dominance after French Open final
Alcaraz held an advantage over Sinner heading into their latest meeting, having won seven of their 11 previous ATP matches.
That involved four successive wins for the Spaniard ahead of this year’s French Open, including last month’s Italian Open final.

It also included a win for Alcaraz at Roland Garros this stage last year, who triumphed in their semi-final before beating Zverev.
Now, the latest success will be celebrated and the latest defeat analysed, in what is certain to be one of the all-time great tennis rivalries.
The Big Three of Nadal, Federer and Djokovic enjoyed a thrilling rivalry, constantly pushing one another on the court.
But now the ATP Tour is witnessing the next generation’s intense battle, with Sinner and Alcaraz fittingly occupying the top two spots in the world rankings.
They have now played out the last two significant finals on the ATP Tour, and there is every chance they could continue that trend heading into the grass court season.
Alcaraz has won the last two titles at Wimbledon, beating Djokovic on both occasions, while Sinner has yet to taste success at the All England Club.
| Year | Australian Open | French Open | Wimbledon | US Open |
| 2024 | Jannik Sinner | Carlos Alcaraz | Carlos Alcaraz | Jannik Sinner |
| 2025 | Jannik Sinner | Carlos Alcaraz | – | – |
Remarkably, the duo represent seven of the past eight Grand Slam champions, with only Djokovic able to break that trend with his 2023 US Open title.
That run now includes wins for either Sinner or Alcaraz in the last six Grand Slams, which really epitomises their current dominance.
