Jannik Sinner has kicked off his grass court season at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle, taking on both singles and doubles.
ATP number one Sinner lost his doubles opener alongside Lorenzo Sonego, with the Italian duo falling to Karen Khachanov and Alex Michelsen.
But Sinner did manage to win his singles opener the following day, overcoming Yannick Hanfmann 7-5, 6-3.
Sinner was delighted to beat Hanfmann in Halle, a tournament he won in 2024 for his only career grass title to date.
Three-time Grand Slam champion Sinner took a break after the French Open final earlier this month, which he lost to Carlos Alcaraz.

But he is now back to winning ways after transitioning from clay to grass, with the Italian having now shared a verdict on his time in Halle so far.
“I got good feedback today,” said Sinner. “I think my moment was relatively good for the first match [on grass].

“I had some problems serving in doubles yesterday, that’s why I went to train a bit later and today I served much better.
“That’s why the first shots are very important on this surface, but the next round will be another very difficult but interesting match against [Alexander] Bublik.
“I just have to be mentally prepared for all the problems that I will have on the court and hopefully I can solve the problems or situations.”

As he mentioned, Sinner now turns his focus to 2023 Halle champion Bublik, who he beat in the quarter-finals of the French Open.
The Italian is the top seed at the ATP 500 tournament, which is currently taking place as Wimbledon approaches.

The grass court Grand Slam starts at the end of the month, with a semi-final run in 2023 representing Sinner’s best finish.
It is his rival Alcaraz who has dominated the tournament in recent times, winning the last two Wimbledon finals against Novak Djokovic.
| Year | Result |

| 2022 | Quarter-final |
| 2023 | Semi-final |
| 2024 | Quarter-final |
Sinner will now be using Halle to fine-tune his grass court game ahead of another trip to the All England Club.
Alcaraz meanwhile is already in London, and like Sinner he now has a round of 16 match, playing Jaume Munar at Queen’s.
