Jack Draper now has a different status on the ATP Tour after winning the biggest title of his career at Indian Wells.
Draper beat Holger Rune in empathic fashion to win the Indian Wells title, becoming just the second British singles player in history to do so after Cameron Norrie in 2021.
As a result, Draper has risen to a career-high ranking and is currently third in the race to the year-end ATP Finals.
Many have now claimed that Draper could contend for Grand Slams in the future, but both Jack Sock and Sam Querrey have suggested that the 23-year-old needs to prove something first.

Jack Sock says what he hopes happens to Jack Draper after winning Indian Wells
Draper beat Carlos Alcaraz, amongst a host of top players en route to the Indian Wells title including Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton and then Rune in the final.
There was even a tough opener for the young Brit, with Draper beating Joao Fonseca, the Brazilian teenage sensation, in straight sets.
When reflecting on Draper’s biggest title victory so far, former top 10 player Sock spoke on the Nothing Major Podcast about what he hopes happens next for the Indian Wells champion.
“He seems like a guy who was probably already confident prior to this tournament and in his head he probably thinks he can beat anybody out there on tour at any time, and I think a week he just had and a run he just had, beating the players he did, only probably solidifies that in his mind,” said Sock.
“And I think going forward, I think now that he’s proved that to himself and to everybody else on tour, I think he is going to be a threat now every week playing. He has always had a massive game, he’s been a tough out and when things are clicking and he’s in full flight he’s going to always be a tough one.
“But I think now hopefully that kind of propels him and launches him into more consistent results going forward and doing it week in week out rather than here and there, I guess. But an insane week!”
The aforementioned Querrey responded to this by suggesting that this victory does not make Draper Grand Slam contender in his mind just yet, with the Miami Open the next chance for the new world number seven to showcase himself.
“I need him to put together a couple more good weeks before I am like this guy is a Slam contender and he is going to win Slams,” said Draper. “I will be curious to see how Draper does in Miami, does he follow this up with a quarter or better?”
Who is Jack Draper playing at the Miami Open?
Draper will be making his fourth appearance at the Miami Open this year, having made his debut as a 19-year-old in 2021.
However, he has still only won two of his three matches at the tournament and is yet to surpass the second round.
Draper will be seeded at the Miami Open for the first time in 2025, where he will await either former top 10 player Roberto Bautista Agut or talented teenager in Jakub Mensik.
| Miami Open 2025 | Draper’s Potential Opponent |
| First Round | Receives a bye as the sixth seed |
| Second Round | Jakub Mensik/Roberto Bautista Agut |
| Third Round | Alexei Popyrin (25)/Jenson Brooksby/Roman Safiullin |
| Fourth Round | Holger Rune (11)/Tomas Machac (25) |
| Quarter-final | Alexander Zverev (1)/Frances Tiafoe (16)/Arthur Fils (17)/Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (28) |

If he is to reach the fourth round, Draper could have a rematch with Rune after their clash in the Indian Wells final.
Only seven other men in history have achieved the sunshine double before, with Draper looking to become the first since Roger Federer in 2017.
