Jack Draper was forced to retire against Carlos Alcaraz in his fourth round match at the Australian Open.
Draper had withdrawn from the United Cup, after struggling with a hip injury during the off-season.
Despite this, the Brit has managed to come through three five set matches that included Draper coming back to beat Thanasi Kokkinakis in the second round.
Following his third five set match, Draper admitted to struggling ahead of the fourth round with Carlos Alcaraz.
Draper went onto retire from his fourth round match against Alcaraz after playing two sets, citing that previous hip injury.

Jack Draper highlights poor performances at the Australian Open
Draper has been part of some of the more eye-catching matches during the first week of the Australian Open, but it seems that he was not that impressed with some of his play.
When speaking to press after the match, Draper was damning of his on-court performances, but praised his competitiveness after making a comeback in all three of his matches at the Australian Open.
“So, I mean, considering everything, you know, I’m incredibly proud of my efforts,” said Draper. “My tennis has been pretty bang-average.
“The whole week, you know, it’s been really poor, actually, but, like, it’s been my competitiveness, my fight, and my desire to win. That’s got me into the last 16 of a Grand Slam, which is something I’m very proud of.”
Will Jack Draper rise in the next ATP rankings update?
Although Draper’s campaign ended in disappointing fashion, it has actually been his best performance at the Australian Open after reaching the last-16.
This is also his second best result at a Grand Slam tournament ever, with Draper reaching the US Open semi-final last year.
| Grand Slam Tournament | Jack Draper’s Best Result |
| Australian Open | Fourth Round (2025) |
| Roland Garros | First Round (2023 & 2024) |
| Wimbledon | Second Round (2022 & 2024) |
| US Open | Semi-final (2024) |
Last year, Draper reached a career-high ranking of world number 15 after winning the biggest title of his career in Vienna.
He had slipped down three places to world number 18 ahead of the Australian Open, but now sits back at number 15 in the live rankings.
Whether Draper will remain in this spot when the ATP rankings are officially updated depends on other players remaining in the Australian Open including Ben Shelton.
