Iga Swiatek has experienced a brilliant season on the WTA Tour, and could yet end the year as world number one.
Swiatek has established herself as one of the top players on the WTA Tour since she broke through to win her first Grand Slam title at the French Open as a 19-year-old.
Since then she has gone from strength to strength, winning a further four Major titles, her latest coming this year when Swiatek won her fourth French Open by beating Jasmine Paolini.
Swiatek’s 2024 has been particularly impressive, picking up four WTA 1000 titles, which had cemented her position as the number one player in the women’s game.
Her form dipped ever so slightly in the second half of the season however, and rival Aryna Sabalenka overtook her to become world number one.

The Pole recently made a big change, with the aim or regaining the top spot, as Swiatek parted ways with coach Tomasz Wiktorowski, bringing in Belgian Wim Fisette, to replace him.
A change that Swiatek seems to be enjoying already as she looks to defend her WTA Finals crown.
Iga Swiatek ‘really likes’ Wim Fisette’s pre-match talks
Just a few short months into her partnership with Fisette, Swiatek has already noted one thing that she really enjoys about his coaching.
Speaking post-match after her 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 victory over Barbora Krejcikova at the WTA Finals, Swiatek highlighted what she is enjoying the most.
“I really like his pre match talk because it was a bit different to what I experienced before,” she said.
“It was based on stats but also sometimes you listen to stats and it’s hard to imagine and see how it works in life.
“He was able to show me the proof and then it’s much easier to trust it.
“I think this is one thing that is cool because he understands different perspectives and he knows how to convince a player.”
Swiatek went on to reveal how the pairs relationship has developed since they started working together.
“He has been pretty easy with that at the beginning I guess, because I am more of a feeling type person,” she said.
“But for sure we can compliment each other with these two things.”
Can Iga Swiatek win a second WTA Finals title?
Swiatek headed to Saudi Arabia with two goals in mind, defending her WTA Finals title, and regaining her number one spot in the world rankings.
The world number two can regain the top spot from rival Sabalenka with a title in Riyadh, but will most likely need another win in her group against either Jessica Pegula or Coco Gauff to advance to the semi-finals.
Becoming a multiple-time champion at the event is no mean feat, however, as just ten WTA stars in history have won the finals for a second time.
| WTA Finals won | Name |
| 8 | Martina Navratilova |
| 5 | Steffi Graff |
| 5 | Serena Williams |
| 4 | Chris Evert |
| 3 | Monica Seles |
| 3 | Kim Clijsters |
| 2 | Evonne Goolagong Cawley |
| 2 | Gabriela Sabatini |
| 2 | Martina Hingis |
| 2 | Justine Henin |
If Swiatek were to defend her crown, she would be the first to do so since Serena Williams won three in a row from 2012-14.
The Pole is currently one of 16 WTA stars who have won the event just the once, but will be desperately hoping to win a second title to cap off another fantastic season.
Swiatek will return to the court to face off against Coco Gauff on Tuesday.
