Iga Swiatek has crashed out of the US Open at the hands of Amanda Anisimova, who won their quarterfinal 6-4, 6-3.

Swiatek was dealing with an injury at the US Open, but managed to reach the last eight before losing to the home favourite.

Anisimova is loving her US Open run, which continues with a semifinal against former WTA number one Naomi Osaka.

Osaka is currently chasing a third US Open title and fifth Grand Slam title overall, and is into the last four after knocking out Karolina Muchova.

Anisimova meanwhile exacted revenge over Swiatek in their match at Arthur Ashe Stadium, having suffered a heavy loss to the Pole in this year’s Wimbledon final.

Iga Swiatek makes Amanda Anisimova admission after their US Open quarterfinal

Swiatek thrashed the American 6-0, 6-0 at the All England Club in July, but was left ruing her struggles in their latest match.

Speaking afterwards, the Pole admitted: “From the baseline, I felt it was good. I think the serve made the difference.

“She was winning points from her serve and I struggled a bit to sometimes make the first serve in and she returned well from second serve, so I guess that made a difference.

“I couldn’t win today’s match playing like that, serving like that and with Amanda being so aggressive on the return.”

How did Iga Swiatek and Amanda Anisimova perform in their US Open match?

Anisimova would have undoubtedly used her Wimbledon nightmare against Swiatek as motivation in their New York rematch.

The Pole claimed her sixth Grand Slam title with the ruthless victory on Centre Court, which took just 57 minutes.

But the tables were turned completely in their latest meeting, with the American superbly battling past her WTA rival in front of her own fans.

And as Swiatek alluded to, Anisimova impressed with her service, with the latter outperforming the former in areas such as first serve, first serve points and second serve points, as per Sofascore.

It represents her second career win over a top two player, following her success over Aryna Sabalenka en route to that Wimbledon final.

But the tough tests keep coming, with Osaka enjoying a hugely impressive run at the hard-court Grand Slam.

History is, however, on the side of Anisimova, who won their two previous meetings at the Australian Open and French Open in 2022.
