Iga Swiatek has crashed out of the US Open after being beaten in the quarterfinals by Amanda Anisimova.
Swiatek beat Anisimova 6-0 6-0 in the Wimbledon final less than two months ago, but the American was able to get revenge.
This has ended the nine-match winning streak of Swiatek, who has admitted she struggles at the US Open more than other Grand Slams, despite being a former champion.
After her defeat to Anisimova, Swiatek has now also revealed an injury that has prevented her from practicing at the US Open this year.

Iga Swiatek reveals injury in social media post after US Open exit
Anisimova had been going under the radar at the US Open this year, but that is not the case anymore after she beat Swiatek, 6-4 6-3, on a packed Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The quarterfinals are the earliest defeat that Swiatek has suffered at a Grand Slam since Wimbledon 2024, and in an Instagram post she explained why that may have been.
After praising Anisimova for her performance, Swiatek revealed that she had been managing a foot issue throughout the tournament and had not been practicing in her days where she was not playing matches.
“Thank you New York and congratulations @amandaanisimova – you played amazing,” Swiatek wrote. “Good luck for the rest of the tournament.
“As for me…that was great US Swing with a lot of lessons, some amazing memories and more motivation to do better in the future.
“This time @usopen was challenging for me and for my team (I’m really grateful guys, thank you for helping me with this and also big thanks to WTA physios and US Open doctors). Playing matches without practicing on days off, managing foot issue, pushing through a lot…we made it to the quarterfinals with a lot on our plate and I’m pretty proud of what I did in these circumstances.
“And more importantly of the experience I gained. I’ll be back next year with a lot of determination. Now it’s time to get some rest, take care of the body and grind more in Asia. See you soon!”
Will Iga Swiatek now take a break after her US Open exit?
With it currently unclear as to how serious Swiatek’s foot problem is, it remains to be seen when she will next play on the WTA Tour.
However, it appears that the Wimbledon champion is not planning to take any sort of mental break after a tense exchange with a journalist in her post-match press conference.
Swiatek was asked, “Just generally, it’s been a lot of tennis the last few weeks: Wimbledon, the American tournaments leading up to this, and now this. How tired are you at the moment?”
Swiatek: “Well, I don’t know. It’s not like my matches were exhausting here.”
Journalist: “Do you feel like a mental break? I’m not talking about the loss as such.”
Swiatek: “Why would you say that?”
Journalist: “I just wondered. It’s just a lot in a row. Do you look forward to a break?”
Swiatek: “Well, talk to people responsible for the schedule. Do you need mental break?”
Journalist: “Sorry?”
Swiatek: “You look like you need mental break.”
Journalist: “I do, yeah.”
Swiatek: “Well, then what are you doing here?”
Journalist: “Got to get to the end of the tournament.”
Swiatek: “Good luck.”
As Swiatek alluded to in her Instagram post, she will now have a couple of weeks to recover before heading to Asia.
The world number two is next scheduled to compete at the Korea Open, before playing at the China Open and the Wuhan Open.
Swiatek has many ranking points to gain during this part of the season, as she missed the Asian swing last year after receiving a one month ban.
