Hubert Hurkacz has called an end to his coaching relationship with Nicolas Massu.
Hurkacz started working with Massu in November 2024, with eight-time Grand Slam champion Ivan Lendl in a consultancy role, following his split from his coach of five years Craig Boynton.
Much of this coaching relationship has been while Hurkacz has been on the injury sidelines, with the Pole only playing 26 matches in 2025 before undergoing knee surgery.
Hurkacz made an impressive start to the 2026 season, beating Alexander Zverev and Taylor Fritz on his return, but he has struggled to show the same form since.

Two-time Olympic gold medallist Massu had enjoyed success as a coach before, having led Dominic Thiem to his only Grand Slam title at the 2020 US Open.
Despite an impressive return to the ATP Tour at the start of 2026, Hurkacz’s season had started to unravel.
Hurkacz had lost his last seven matches, with his most four recent defeats coming in straight sets, even after dropping down to ATP Challenger level.

Following Hurkacz’s loss to Ethan Quinn at the Miami Open, he has taken to social media to confirm his split from Massu.
Hurkacz wrote on Instagram, “I am very grateful to Nico for all the dedication, hard work and time we spent together during the most challenging times in my career. We have decided to move on, and go our separate ways. Thank you again for everything!”
What is next for Hubert Hurkacz?
Hurkacz is not the only Polish player to split from their coach this week, as he joins Iga Swiatek, who announced her separation from Wim Fissette after losing her only match at the Miami Open.
Who should be Iga Swiatek’s next coach?
It is not yet clear as to whether Hurkacz has someone lined up to replace Massu, as he now switches his focus to the clay court season.
Clay has typically been Hurkacz’s worst-performing surface, but his most recent title came at the Estoril Open in 2024, which is played on clay.
The former world number six will begin his clay court season at the Monte Carlo Masters, where Hurkacz achieved his best result in 2022 after reaching the quarterfinals.
Hurkacz has also entered the BMW Open in Munich, and will also be expected to play in Madrid and Rome ahead of Roland Garros.
