Hubert Hurkacz praises Alex de Minaur ahead of their match

Hurkacz has now previewed his upcoming clash with De Minaur, saying of the Australian: “Well, I mean, obviously Alex has been very successful last past years.

“He’s probably close or the highest ranking that he ever had. He’s really quick, moves around the court incredibly well.

“So it’s going to be a good challenge, especially with the Aussie crowd. It’s going to be a lot of fun, and I’m excited for the match.”

Hubert Hurkacz beats Tallon Griekspoor after Alexander Zverev shock

De Minaur is sixth in the ATP rankings, which is indeed a career-high for the 26-year-old, while Hurkacz is down in 83rd.

But he has had a torrid time with injury of late, although he has shown little sign of struggle at the United Cup so far.

Hurkacz beat Alexander Zverev of Germany, and followed that up with a victory over Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands.

Analysing his latest win, he said: “No, quite happy with my performance. Tallon is a very difficult player to play against.

“He’s obviously big serve and then powerful forehand and coming to the net playing some really great volleys. So I was pleased with my performance today.”

It’s been a stunning comeback from Hurkacz, but he won’t have it easy against the pace of De Minaur and indeed the added pressure of playing against a home favorite.

He stunned Zverev 6-3, 6-4 before beating Griekspoor 6-3, 7-6(4), with Poland boasting six wins from six so far at the 2026 United Cup.
