Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz played their first final against each other at the Monte Carlo Masters.
Alcaraz won the Australian Open and the Qatar Open in a dominant start to his 2026 season, but he did not have to beat Sinner in the final to do so.
The Spaniard then had some relatively disappointing results during the Sunshine Double, where Sinner won Indian Wells and the Miami Open by beating Daniil Medvedev and Jiri Lehecka in those respective finals.

Both Sinner and Alcaraz had won 26 titles prior to the Monte Carlo Masters final, and now the Italian has taken a lead after winning his 27th.

The big advantage that Sinner has is in lower-level tournaments, with the world number one winning all six of the finals he has played at ATP 250 level.

Alcaraz went on to win five of his next six finals against Sinner, which included beating him for both the Roland Garros and US Open titles.
Despite this, Sinner is the only player to beat Alcaraz in a Grand Slam final, having done so at Wimbledon last year.
