Jannik Sinner was searching for his fourth Grand Slam title in the Wimbledon final, as he took on his closest rival in a Roland Garros rematch.
The world number one suffered the most heartbreaking defeat of his career at the 2025 French Open, when Sinner lost to Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 7-6, 4-6, 6-7, 6-7, in a legendary final.
Returning to face off in a second consecutive major final, the pair took to Centre Court on Sunday with the Wimbledon title on the line.

As is so often the case, the sequel wasn’t quite as good as the original… but Sinner and Alcaraz still played some incredible tennis in the Wimbledon final.
Fighting back from a set down, Sinner defeated Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, avenging his French Open final defeat in style.
Quick to congratulate the Italian on his maiden Wimbledon victory, two former champions took to social media to share their thoughts.
Billie Jean King and Rod Laver congratulate Jannik Sinner on his Wimbledon victory
Taking to X, six-time Wimbledon champion Billie Jean King sent a message to the world number one.
“Congratulations to Jannik Sinner on his very first Wimbledon title,” she said.
“He is the first-ever Italian player to win a singles title at the Championships.”
It was third time lucky for Italy at Wimbledon in 2025, as after two final defeats, the nation finally saw one of their own pick up the title.

Australian tennis legend Rod Laver was also keen to comment on the final, as he shared his thoughts on Sinner’s rivalry with Alcaraz.
“Congratulations to Jannik Sinner on winning his first Wimbledon title in another thrilling contest with Carlos Alcaraz,” he said.
“Their growing rivalry is a gift to our sport, and it’s matched by the genuine respect they show for each other.
“Win or lose, they compete with joy, class, and sportsmanship.
“That’s what makes champions.”
‘Champions’ is certainly the right word to use, as Sinner and Alcaraz continue to sweep up the biggest titles in the men’s game.

Sinner and Alcaraz have now shared the previous seven Grand Slams amongst themselves, as they stand together at the top of the ATP Tour mountain.

All eyes now turn towards New York and the 2025 US Open, where Alcaraz and Sinner will look to add to their Grand Slam tallies.
Returning as the defending champion, Sinner will likely be the favorite to win his fifth Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows, although Alcaraz may have other ideas.
The Spaniard was dumped out in the second round of the US Open in 2024, suffering a shock defeat to Botic van de Zandschulp, and will be determined to produce a better performance this time around.
Alcaraz is, of course, a former champion in New York, winning his maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open in 2022, as he certainly knows his way around Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Perhaps one of Sinner and Alcaraz’s rivals will be able to disrupt their reign of terror in September, at historically the most unpredictable Grand Slam tournament.
Juan Martin del Potro, Marin Cilic, Dominic Thiem, and Daniil Medvedev all won their one and only Grand Slam titles at the US Open over the past 15 years or so.
Will Sinner and Alcaraz be able to fend off the chasing pack, or will the likes of Alexander Zverev, Jack Draper, or Taylor Fritz finally get their hands on a major?
Or will Novak Djokovic stand tall once more and pick up a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title?
Only time will tell, but you certainly won’t want to miss any of the action when the 2025 US Open begins on Sunday, August 24.
