The number of players who have already ended their seasons continues to grow.

Complaints about the tennis calendar continue to grow, with players including Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek expressing their frustrations at the current situation.

These complaints were raised once again over the past week, with players including Taylor Fritz calling out the schedule after Holger Rune suffered a serious injury in Stockholm.

Other players including Elina Svitolina have already ended their seasons, and now a former Grand Slam semifinalist has announced that she is making a similar decision.

Tamara Zidansek explains decision to end her season early in lengthy social media message

Tamara Zidansek reached the Roland Garros semifinals in 2021 and has a career-high ranking of world number 22, but she has been far from that player in recent years.

The Slovenian has not won any Grand Slam main draw matches in 2025, and earlier this year fell outside the top 200.

However, after finding some form on the lower-level ITF circuit, including Zidansek winning a title in Bucharest, she has climbed back up to world number 157.

That being said, Zidansek’s most recent tournament at the WTA 125 event in Mallorca resulted in a first round defeat, and she has now released a statement confirming that she has decided to end her season.

“Another year in the books. I decided to finish early this year,” Zidansek wrote on Instagram. “No more “I have to play”, “I have to chase points”, “I should do things like this”… I have been listening to people tell me how to play tennis and how to feel or be when I play tennis.

“If I stop tomorrow I can look back at my career and be proud of what I have achieved. I have been able to experience and already live out a big chunk of my dreams and I couldn’t be more proud of that. But of course, when I’m overwhelmed with always chasing something I don’t see all the good things, I only see what went wrong and what I screwed up.

“The last four months have been a highlight of the last four years. Even though I had some great moments during those past four years I can’t say that I really knew what I was doing but now things are starting to slowly fall into place (I guess age also helps).

“I decided to take a bit more time off to be able to work on my tennis as well as recover mentally and recharge my batteries away from the constant chase and environment where you feel like you constantly need to prove yourself, be at your best and fix things all the time. Maybe sometimes there is nothing to fix. Maybe sometimes it’s just that simple.”

Some of the other players who have already ended their seasons

With the 2025 season approaching its end, more and more players are deciding to call it a day due to the physical and mental toll the calendar is having on their bodies.

One of the first to do this was Jack Draper, who is already making plans for the 2026 season after suffering an injury that has seen him only play one singles match since Wimbledon.

Grand Slam champions including Barbora Krejcikova, Marketa Vondrousova and Emma Raducanu have also ended their season for varying reasons.

The most serious of all these is Holger Rune, who suffered a serious Achilles injury in Stockholm and has involuntarily ended his season.

Although it is not yet known exactly how long his recovery will take, it is predicted that Rune will not return to the match court for at least nine months.
