Daniil Medvedev has provided an update on his coaching situation ahead of the 2026 season.
Medvedev won only one Grand Slam match this year, with the former world number one losing his last four consecutive matches at majors.
After losing in the first round of the US Open, Medvedev split from his long-term coach Gilles Cervara after working together for eight years.
Following this shock split, Medvedev added Thomas Johansson to his team, as well as Rohan Goetzke, on a trial period until the end of the 2025 season.

Daniil Medvedev confirms plans to keep working with Thomas Johansson
Medvedev has seen some improvements since working with Johansson, which have enabled him to win his first title since May 2023 at the Almaty Open.
It is no secret that Medvedev is not always the easiest player to coach, but he has now confirmed that both former Australian Open champion Johansson and Goetzke will remain for the 2026 season.
“It’s possible to draw some preliminary conclusions because almost three months have passed,” Medvedev said as reported by Sports.ru. “The only thing is that we haven’t had much work outside of tournaments: I’ve played six in a row, and before that, we were only on the team for a week and a half.
“So, the main work will be now, but in the interim, everything has gone great. We initially agreed that this would be a trial period until the end of the season. We’re all enjoying it, and we’re continuing to work. So next season will be more interesting: both they and I have higher expectations. We’ll see what comes of it.”
Medvedev finished his 2025 season after losing in the quarterfinal of the Paris Masters, having won 15 of his 20 matches with Johansson.

Daniil Medvedev provides update on relationship with former coach Gilles Cervara
After splitting with his former coach, Medvedev admitted he was not in contact with Cervara.
However, Medvedev’s relationship with Cervara appears to have healed since they parted ways in September and he explained that they now speak infrequently.
Medvedev also revealed that Cervara is now working with a new player, who he will be practicing with in the off-season.
“I keep in touch with my former coach a little, but it will never be daily again,” added Medvedev. “It just so happens that I already know who he’ll be coaching, because we’ll most likely be training with that player during the preseason. And we’ll see each other on tour.”
Who will be the biggest disappointment at the 2026 Australian Open?
Although nothing is confirmed, it is thought that Cervara could be working with young American Nishesh Basavareddy, who Djokovic had high praise for earlier this year.
As he moves on from his collaboration with Cervara, Medvedev will continue his work with Johansson and Goetzke, as he begins his 2026 season at the Brisbane International.
