Coco Gauff experienced another roller-coaster season in 2025, which she has ended ranked third on the WTA Tour.
Gauff cried at the US Open before going on to suffer a fourth round exit, much to the disappointment of the fans.
She also suffered disappointment at Wimbledon with a first round loss, while Gauff started the Grand Slam year with a quarterfinal run at the Australian Open.
After that, the WTA star clinched her second career Grand Slam title at the French Open, adding to her 2023 US Open title.
Just before this year’s US Open, however, Gauff split with coach Matt Daly, and also decided to appoint biomechanics specialist Gavin MacMillan.

Gauff had been struggling with her serve all season, particularly concerning double faults, ending 2025 with a huge 431, considerably more than any other player.
She has now addressed the major move, having been asked by Forbes if it was difficult to make such a significant change mid-season, knowing that fans and the media would be paying close attention.
Gauff said: “Yeah definitely. I think getting asked the same question over and over was annoying. But I knew what to expect when I made that decision, but I made it for me at the end of the day.
“I just think of all the players… I’ve talked to Roger [Federer] and Rafa [Nadal], and they would add things to their game just to beat the other Big Three, so Novak [Djokovic], and then they would add things to their games just to be that one person. And I feel like that’s important for me to do if I want to do as well against the other players on tour.”

More doubles matches could help Gauff’s serve in 2026, with the American certain to be working on that aspect of her game in the off-season.
Despite the issue, Gauff has already achieved so much success, but she expects to get even better in the near future.

Asked where she thinks she is in her career development on and off the court, she replied: “I think on court I feel so far away from my potential, which I guess if you asked me that before, I used to think, ‘Oh, it’s happening now so I’ve got to capitalize on the moment’.
“But then I’m like looking at the tour and I’m seeing girls really having their best results at like 25/26, so I feel like in four years, I feel like I would be where I would like to be.
“But obviously that doesn’t take away from everything I’ve done right now. But I think I’m just eager to improve and get better.”

Gauff certainly deserves praise for her accomplishments so far, both on and off the court, with plenty more to come from the 21-year-old.
She can be really proud of her efforts since bursting onto the scene as a teenager, having claimed 11 WTA titles in total at this stage of her career.
But she’s now fired a real warning shot to the rest of the WTA Tour with her comments about her potential, with a strong start to 2026 very much on the cards for Gauff.
